2018 Honda CR-V
As of this writing, the 2022 Honda CR-V is the latest model available, and we think that makes the 2018 model a good starting point when talking about purchasing a used Honda CR-V in Napa. The 2018 model is one year removed from the launch of the fifth generation. What’s notable from the perspective of the used car buyer is that the 2018 model is essentially unchanged from the 2017 model. That means that all other things being equal, save yourself some money and choose the slightly older CR-V.
2017 Honda CR-V
This is the model year topping our Napa Ford used sales for CR-V models right now. This is the model that ushered in the fifth generation, and for the average consumer, there just really isn’t much difference between this one and the one currently being sold as the latest and greatest.
2016 Honda CR-V
This is where our Napa Ford used sales team things get interesting for the average consumer as we jump back a model year. Transitioning between model years can make a massive difference, but that really isn’t the case with the used Honda CR-V. The 2016 Honda CR-V was among the most critically acclaimed small crossovers that year, and there were no massive updates between the generations. The difference in cost between 2017 and 2016 can be significant, so we consider this somewhat of a sweet spot.
2015 Honda CR-V
All else being equal, the 2015 model may even be better option for your used Honda CR-V in Napa. The 2016 model introduced the Special Edition or SE, and it made the security system standard equipment. Beyond that, these two models are effectively the same, so be mindful of that when comparing. Our preference in this model year is the EX, which is a step up from the base model. It adds features like blind-spot monitoring, heated front seats and a 7-inch touchscreen with dynamic guidelines, and the difference between this package and the latest CR-V rolling off the production line is not much.
2014 Honda CR-V
This is the point at which the Honda CR-V models are no longer candidates for the Honda Certified Pre-Owned program. It can be a bit more difficult to find a car that fits your standards in terms of mileage and whatnot, but that does not mean there aren’t gems to be found here. There are some differences to be aware of. This is a model year before Honda switched over to the direct-injected four-cylinder, and this vehicle has a five-speed automatic transmission as opposed to the CVT. You’ll also find that the infotainment and driver-assistance technologies are not quite as modern in this model year.
