Check out the Completely Redesigned 2020 Ford Explorer

2020 Ford ExplorerThe Ford Explorer has been a viable part of the SUV landscape since the first model was introduced in 1991. Now, nearly 30 years later, the Explorer is making its presence known with a totally redesigned SUV.

Explorer Trims

For 2020, five trims blend upbeat styling with sophisticated elegance. The trims include the XLT, Limited, Limited Hybrid, ST, and Platinum with the availability of intelligent four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. A few of the exterior enhancements include a sportier front grille area, a sloping roofline designed to provide more headroom for passengers in the second and third row, and a power liftgate.

The Explorer comes standard with painted 18-inch aluminum wheels with the option of 21-inch premium wheels for the Platinum. Other updates that complement the exterior design include roof-rack side rails and door handles and a grille with a satin aluminum finish. The Platinum features leather seats, front console, and door armrests, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a twin-panel moonroof.

Power and Performance

Two engines are available. One is a revised and updated 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that creates 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The 2.3-liter engine is standard on the base XLT and the two Limited trims. The other engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 with 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The redesign also includes a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Explorer’s towing capability is increased for 2020. The 2.3-liter can tow up to 5,300 pounds when properly fitted with the Class III Trailer Tow Package. The 3.0-liter can handle up to 5,600 pounds.

Driver Assist Features

With the all-new Terrain Management System, you’ll be in control no matter what type of terrain you’re traversing or what challenges the weather presents. The system provides a choice of seven Selectable Drive Modes. The modes include normal, sport, tow/haul, slippery, trail, and deep snow/sand. A new eco mode is also included along with 3D animated graphics and a 12.3-inch digital cluster.

Drivers are assisted by Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with optional Speed sign Recognition. Active Park Assist 2.0 makes parallel or perpendicular parking possible by simply pushing a button.

Interior

The interior has a few updates that add to the comfort and convenience of the SUV. For comfort, the second-row seats are equipped with a mechanism that makes it easier for passengers to get in and out of the third row. The second-row windows can be fitted with sunshades that are easily retractable. For convenience, when the second- and third-row seats are folded down, you’ll have access to 87.8 cubic feet in the cargo area. The SUV also has a new digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

A few new technology enhancements for 2020 include a 10.1-inch capacitive touch screen with navigation maps, an 8-inch digital touch screen fitted with SYNC 3 with features such as Waze navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, and FordPass Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi service that allows connectivity for a maximum of 10 devices.
