Dinner table at restaurantWhen it’s time for a special dinner out, you don’t want to go to just any restaurant. You want to go to one of the very best, such as a restaurant that’s earned at least one Michelin star. Even one star is an indication of high-quality cuisine. Two stars signals excellence, and three stars means you’ll get exceptional food that’s done perfectly. The Michelin-star guide says one star is worth a stop, two are worth a detour, and three are worth a journey. Treat yourself to a Michelin-Star meal in one of these three worthy restaurants in the Napa Valley.

The Restaurant at Meadowood (3 Stars)

The Restaurant at Meadowood, operated in Helena by chef Christopher Kostow for more than a decade, embraces and benefits the Napa Valley through mutual relationships. The restaurant’s 3.5 acre culinary farm grows seasonal crops utilizing sustainable, organic techniques. The menus change frequently and incorporate seasonal ingredients from the farm, such as field peas in early spring or a wedge of turnip later in the season.

Kostow expertly crafts luxury dining experiences that are both elegant and approachable. Dining experiences include a three-course bar menu, a tasting menu with about 14 courses, a counter menu with about 20 courses, with prices ranging from $90 to $500. Wine pairings for tasting and counter menus can be added as well. You can dine in the dining room, the bar, the lounge, and at the chef’s counter in the kitchen. Your food will be thoughtfully prepared and plated with beauty, featuring ample elements from the garden in the dishes and the gorgeous garnishes.

The restaurant is located at 900 Meadowood Lane in Helena.

Kenzo Estate (1 Star)

Kenzo and Natsuko Tsujimoto brought their experience running four Kenzo Estate restaurants and tasting rooms in Japan when the couple chose to continue their vision with a Kenzo Estate restaurant in Napa. The creative seasonal tasting menus merge Japanese traditions with unique techniques. Ingredients are flown in daily from Tsukiji Market, Japan’s most acclaimed market.

The authentic Japanese dining experiance exudes elegance with wonderful Kaiseki delicacies that are intended to pair with an eclectic collection of wines and sakes from all over the world, including the Kenzo Estate Winery’s full Napa Valley collection. Diners are seated in a 27-seat room that replicates an authentic luxurious Japanese restaurant.

Kenzo Estate is at 1339 Pearl St. in downtown Napa.

The French Laundry (3 Stars)

Chef Thomas Keller blends impeccable fresh ingredients with wonderfully classic French techniques at The French Laundry in Yountville. The restaurant has two seasonal tasting menus, including a vegetarian menu. Diners might receive delicacies such as charcoal-grilled Japanese wagyu with wild mushrooms, potato gratin and sauce borderelaise or, on the vegetarian menu, rye dumplings featuring charcoal-grilled cabbage, daikon radishes, garden kohlrabi, and cabbage bouillon.

The French Laundry is located at 6640 Washington St. in a river rock and timber structure built as a saloon in 1900.

These delightful restaurants in the Napa Valley have been rewarded for their excellence with Michelin stars. If you treat yourself to dining excellence at one of them, you’ll be giving yourself an experience you’ll never forget.
